[sf-lug] "Why?..." Re: BALUG: meeting TOMORROW!: Tu 2018-08-21 ...

Well, one can always bring questions, etc. to the BALUG meeting.
Depending what we do/don't have on the agenda/meeting schedule,
there's typically at least some time for general questions,
and often quite a bit of time for general discussion/conversation
(e.g. over dinner during meeting or portion thereof when we're not
having a formal presentation/talk being presented to us ... and even
then there's often opportunity for relevant questions). So, should
have quite ample opportunity for such tomorrow.
So, sure, bring questions. Might also get better responses, etc.
if the questions are asked in advance ... folks may get more time to
think about it, perhaps research/check, etc. ... might even attract some
folk(s) that are particular experts on the specific thing(s) one may have
question(s) about. The list
BALUG-Talk
https://lists.balug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/balug-talk
might also be particularly useful for that.
And "Why?" is often a good question. Often there's bits in design
philosophy, history, etc., as to why certain decisions were/weren't
taken earlier, and what was - and wasn't done ... and why.
And "just reinstall the whole distro" also, usually isn't the best answer
either - that would also tend to mask whatever issues may be - or have been
present.
And documentation often quite covers what, and some reasonable bit of how
(or enough to figure that out) ... but the "Why?" may be light to missing
in the documentation ... but often that's to be found in other materials,
e.g. history, standards, source code comments and revision history
thereof, archives of discussion/bug/feature request forums, standards
bodies, etc.
