[conspire] bootable USB

Have you tried both usb 2 and usb 3 keys? My current older X58
motherboard's BIOS does not see my usb 3 key if it is plugged into one of
the motherboard's usb 3 ports, but it does see it and boot from it when the
key is plugged into one of the motherboard's usb 2 ports. You should be
able to see the key in the BIOS menu whether it is bootable or not. My
desktop uses F11 to bring up the boot device menu while my laptop uses F12.
