If you're doing chmod 777, that generally means you're doing it wrong.
With 777 permissions (rwxrwxrwx, e.g. a=rwx), that generally allows
any UID or GID whatsoever on the host to change the file, e.g. most
any process on the host can alter or clobber the contents of that
file, whether intentionally or not.
