Hi LUGers,

   SF-LUG meets every third Monday from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M.
and  every first Sunday from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M.,
at the Cafe Enchante, 26th and Geary Boulevard.

These meetings are usually lightly attended with a high for the
year so far of 7 members.   If you have a problem come along
and maybe we can help but if not we can usually find someone
who can.

Additions to the Distribution Library:

Network Security Toolkit -nst-28-10234 <https://distrowatch.com/10249>
Network Security Toolkit (NST <https://distrowatch.com/nst>) is a
bootable live disc based on the Fedora
distribution. The toolkit was designed to provide easy access to
best-of-breed
  open source network security applications.
This uses Mate and everything good I could say about Gnome 2.30.2
applies equally well to Mate.
This used Dragora package manager and I don't like it as well as Synaptic,
the kernel is as up to date as you could find in a Rolling Release.
This is short on Games and on Office but it has enough Internet tools
to knock your socks off.  I even understand what a lot of them are about.
It seems designed to run from DVD or digital media.  It does not
seem to have the capability to be installed on a UEFI system.
If anyone wants a copy on disk or media let me know.

[CentOS] <https://distrowatch.com/centos>
CentOS <https://distrowatch.com/centos> 6.10 is a Linux distribution
based on the source code from Red Hat
Enterprise Linux.  The project's latest version, CentOS 6.10, offers an
update
to the project's 6.x series and includes mostly bug fixes along with a few
minor upgrades. "We are pleased to announce  the immediate availability of
CentOS Linux 6.10 and install media for i386 and x86_64 architectures.
This version of a live disk has an automatic login which saves me a little
work.  This uses rather old kernels and an old friend Gnome 2.30.2,
This is a useful and easily configured desktop environment unlike
the Gnome with versions over 3
I have downloaded a live 64 bit version but we have a much larger
Install
version and a Network Install version that will fit handily on a CD.
If you are interested I will be happy to download either of the
Installation
  iso files.  I downloaded CentOS-6.10-x86_64-LiveDVD.iso
CentOS of course is an acronym standing for Community ENTerprise Operating
System.

Redcore Linux 18.06 is a Gentoo-based distribution designed to
be easy to set up for desktop use. It ships with the LXQt desktop
environment and provides a repository of pre-built binary packages.
The project's latest snapshot, Redcore Linux 1806, includes many
package upgrades from Gentoo along with improvements with the
Sisyphus package manager.  This is focused on security.
I had to look up the expected user and password which happens
to be in both cases redcore.  It has all the usual tools with some
variants such as Falkon for a browser.
LXQT is a very nice version that will let you create extra
panels and move the default panel around.
     I have downloaded Redcore.Linux.Hardened.1806.LXQT.amd64.iso
<http://mirrors.redcorelinux.org/redcorelinux/iso/Redcore.Linux.Hardened.1806.LXQT.amd64.iso>

isotester-avl64-2018.6.25.iso
If you remember my report on isotester-avl32 which would not
load on my 64 bit machine, isotester-avl64-2018.6.25.iso works fine.
This disk does not appear to have UEFI or EFI compatibility but
it is full of tools for the purpose of Audio Video production.
It lacks games and office products but it seems to have all
the manuals that you will need to figure out how to run the
tools.  It does have a fussy background composed of what seem
to be real life tools you might use instead of their handier digital
equivalents.

Any way if you want to read more about any of these look at
<www.distrowatch.com> and if you find something else that you want,
let me know soon after I post this meeting notice and I will get it
for you
assuming that anyone connected still hasa very slow connection.

Actually at least one member has no connection at home and must
go the SFPL to get mail or to post it or come to the meeting to use the
Cafe Enchante's WiFi connection, so i don't mind downloading stuff that
does not seem interesting to me.  Bu the way I am not downloading and
testing beta releases any longer as I simply am not able to find the time
and energy to deal with stuff that is unfinished.

So I hope some of us show up at the next meeting, remember on
July 16, 2018 from 6-8 PM at the Cafe Enchante, 26th and Geary.

I will definitely do my best to show up there. ;^)
