It's subsequently been pointed out to me that the GitLab codebase is a
Ruby on Rails Webapp, which means it will have severe scalability limits
and require a huge amount of RAM just to get off the ground. (I was
mislead by the Wikipedia page mentioning only that the codebase is in Ruby
with a small amount of Go, but Rails is nowhere mentioned.)

Thanks for that feedback and insight!

Besides GitLab drawbacks such as these, there are of course Microsoft
advocates/apologists who have and will bring out _other_ drawbacks on
GitLab and throw actual but discrete FUD on those considering the vast
migration currently happening from GitHub to GitLab.
After the typically requisite but brief caveat from one such Microsoft
advocate (who btw still uses MS-Windows) of "I don't want to get into an
argument about this as I am not exactly a fan of Microsoft but... " that
same advocate is consistently downplaying the hazards of the GitHub
acquisition in at least the half-dozen mailing-list postings in references
[02] through [07] from today.

FUD aside, GitLab's YouTube video 'Migrating from GitHub to GitLab' linked
in reference [08] is currently more than *twice* as popular than today's
Microsoft's explanation YouTube video 'Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella' Linked
In reference [09]. As I write this, GitLab has available importing
instructions from GitHub to GitLab at reference [10] and GitHub has
account deletion instructions at reference [11].

Perhaps someone will put out a YouTube video as excellent as Scott
Chacon's popular 'Introduction to Git' at reference [12], but this time
for GitLab or for other viable code-repository and management platforms?
