Point 1:  If you are concerned about not 'hijacking a thread', as Jon was 
(and I did appreciate his concern), the best way to avoid that perception
is, very simply, _start a new thread_ -- and not reply to an existing
one.  At bare minimum, it's a good idea to at least change the Subject
header to reflect your new focus.

Point 2:  On any mailing list, you should Reply-All if continuing the
public discussion -- unless you really, seriously, intend to depart into
offlist private mail (in which case, sure, yeah, do Reply-Sender).
Seems like a bunch of sf-lug subscribers are still doing the latter by
accident.
