You might find http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=114916 useful - 
it's a program that (once) could remove the layer on Windows Media tracks 
that makes them unplayable by non-Windows systems.

According to Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Media_DRM, 
version 1.3fix-2 is still fully-featured.  Once you've done that, 
w32codecs or regular mplayer should be okay.  And if mplayer can read it, 
mencoder can transcode it.
