(Responding to Elise as this was the message on top of the pile when I opened the thread this morning.)

Another Jewish person checking in.

One of my guiding principles in life is from Suze Orman (personal finance): "People first, then money, then things."

When it comes to "people first," that's not just "People I like." Or "people who are similar to me in this way." It also includes "people I can't stand but who don't belong in prison." (And it even involves the civil rights of those incarcerated.)

It's obvious to me that those who voted for Trump do not put people first. Period. Their group first, sure. But not Americans as a whole, and particularly not Americans with melanin, Americans with a second X chromosome or some odd chromosome mix, Americans who prefer romantic/sexual relationships with their own gender, Americans who'd like to get an abortion, Americans who'd prefer not to have children, Americans with special needs. Etc.

And he's also not a money first guy, given that he's been pretty awful at that, historically speaking.

But the thing that I really don't understand? The 21-34% [1] of Jewish people who voted for him over Harris, even though they may be about as wise on that point as, well, these guys:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_German_National_Jews

Fully 20% of my friends do not expect to live to see the next inauguration of a US President (if there is one, especially given today's third term BS plus the recent king thing).

I would personally like to see anyone who voted for The Adjudicated Rapist live with the level of existential dread that that fraction of my friends do, knowing what they know about what he's said. (Why would *anyone* think an adjudicated rapist would keep their word? The entire point of rape is to violate boundaries.)

Anyhow, it's not too late to Do Something™ even if one voted for the wrong guy.

It's the first time in a long time that I've regretted moving back from Ireland.
