Just an afterthought:

> First of all, kill Firefox....

And, when I say "kill Firefox", I mean make sure the process is actually
no longer running. The output of "ps auxw | more" (or substitute "grep
[processname]" for "more" if you know what that is) should no longer
show it.

It occurred to me, after my post of a moment ago, that some people might
not know that e.g., closing the open windows of a graphical application
doesn't necessarily cause the process to really terminate.

This is particularly important with a misbehaving user application,
because it might be that the reason you cannot seem to get it to behave
after supposedly killing and relaunching it is that you never actually
killed it, and it's still sitting in memory causing you trouble.

This is one of the reasons, by the way, that I keep stressing that users
really do need to get to know what processes they're running and why
they are choosing to run each of them -- and why I eschew 'desktop
environments' where there's a whole raft of processes running that I
have no particular reason to want.
