Our story unfolds opens in the borderlands. Queen Tanobia (sp?) of Saldea is recieving a guest. The guest is Damodred, disguised as a lord from a neighboring borderland country, and ultimately responsible for the troubles in those lands. Planting rumors of her niece's abduction, Tanobia (beguiled) sends troups south. Damodred is systematically weakening the Borderlands in preparation for the final battle and the wave of trollocs and dreadlords that will poor from the north.

In Salidar, Nyn et al. capture Moggy quickly, and uncover the two dark AS who were with her. However, such a thing can not be kept hidden. Reacting blindly, the Salidar Aes Sedai still and execute Moggy, and still the black ajah, keeping them for questioning. Arriving the same day, the former Queen Morgase wishes to invite the tower in exile to Caemlyn. Sheriam, the newly elected Amyrlyn Seat, disagrees. Rand Al'Thor must not be hindered. Morgase, frustrated, is kept at Salidar and not allowed to leave. Elayne believes the tower is in error, and that Rand would not wish to keep Caemlyn for himself. Her, Min and Nyn et al. flee Salidar. Unfortunately they are quickly taken captive by the large force of Children of the Light that is moving on Salidar. Morgase is killed in the skirmish, giving the Children a ready hostage, Elayne, now truly Queen. Galad arrives and in a unlikely fit of guilt, allows them to escape, warning them in the process that other Aes Sedai are south and that they should avoid them at all costs. These are not really Aes Sedai, but Seanchan, moving north from the southern coasts. He warns that strange things have been occuring, and thinks these Aes Sedai are the cause. If the Seanchan are back in force Rand must be warned. Thus Elayne, Nyn and Min head south on a journey to find the truth to these rumors and discover something mysterious.

In Two Rivers, Perrin and his Falcon set about repairing the damage done to the area. In a wolf dream Perrin sees Rand, confident in his power, having just taken over the world. However Rand does not see that his power is illusionary and evil and madness surrounds him. Knowing he must warn his friend, he and Faile set off to Caemlyn. Verin and Alanna accompany him. Another Forsaken, identity unknown, attacks during the journey. The tripod broken means a victory for the Dark One. Verin reveals mysterious powers, and drives the Forsaken away. She seems to know the forsaken a bit too well for Perrin's comfort. Not wanting to risk her company any longer Perrin and Faile try to slip off, but Alanna reveals her true Ajah (black) and bonds Perrin to her. He is now helpless to her commands for it is a tight leash. Alanna is actually Mesaana, who's symbol during the Age of Legends was the Hawk. Faile is held captive and not killed. Now, they continue their journey to Caemlyn, where Verin (who is she really?) and Mesaana will use Perrin to strike at Rand.

Rand gathers his armies. Stepping into T'A'R in the flesh, he boldly attacks Samael in Illian. Samael is killed in T'A'R, his bonds to the dark one severed, and cowers at the end before Rand beheads him with his Power Sword. Rand's armies sweep into Illian, with few casualties due to a sudden loss of moral. With 4 major countries behind him, (Tear, Andor, Cairhein, and now Illian) the rest of the world easily steps into line. However Rand has overstepped himself. In every country dissent brews. Forsaken are compelling important lords to their will. All could be lost if all rebelled at once. The Aiel cause problems themselves, their ji'etoh conflicting harshly with the 'wetlanders' laws. While in Illian the Sea Folk catch up and tell Rand that he is their Cooramoor, or the "One who must die for the people". All appears to be going Rand's way when Mazrim Taim shows up. Its been over 10 years since he first started channelling, and he is now going quite mad. Believing Rand was the cause of his downfall, he attacks with unbelievable strength (due to his madness) and by the end of the battle, much of Illian has sunk into a new harbor. Barely able to survive the battle, Rand is easy pickings for the Sea Folk Windmistress. She binds Rand with the power, and sails home where he will meet his destiny.

So ends book 6, Lord of Chaos (Mazrim Taim).
