Okay here it is the official plot to LoC. We all know that from the cover the book is really RJ's attempt at harlequin romance so I had to take this into consideration.
It opens in Salidar with Nynaeve searching for Moghedien. You see RJ wants to add suspense to the death of As. While she searches the love between Siuan and Gareth increases. Moonlit walks, candlelight diners, a roaring fire while lying on a bear skin rug all that good stuff. However into the passion that builds steps another woman, Morgase. The stares become frosty, the sparks fly the barely veiled allusions reign. Morgase plots to get back her man. While all this is happening Egwene is named the Amyrlin in exile.
As the summer goes on and Nyn thoughts turn to Lan and his well chisled body. Worry overcomes the AS in exile about the length of the summer. They send Nyn and El off just a few days before Lan arrives in Salidar. Oh the pain of two ships passing in the night.
The scene now switches to Rand in Cairhein. He lounges
in his lush room the power oozing from every pore.
Woman flock to him yet he has eyes for only one,
Aviendha. He tries to win her heart with acts of
bravery, gifts and an occasional sarenade. She will not
break though she keeps her honour although the pain of
refusing is plain upon her face. The reader feels the
absolute abyss which is unrequited love. Rand being put
off turns his attentions to the business about him. He
declares Elayne the ruler of Cairhein as his thoughts
turn to her. Many a times we see the dreams of Rand as
he runs through the hills with Elayne at his side. They
stop looking deeply at each other, drawing on one
anothers soul. They kiss, they fall clutching each
other as wolves howl at the wind.
It is then finally revealed as we see the killer of
Asmodean. It is Roy. Yes driven to desperation at the
loss of his one true love he kills Asmodean however he
now knows how to retrieve her. He the hero goes to
rescue his damsel in distress, Lanfear. You see him
riding into the sunset towards the tower of Ghenji.
Egwene becomes more and more power hungry. After
finding out that she is now the Amyrlin in exile her
plans start to take shape. She thinks that she alone
can save Rand and thus plots in secret so as to try and
control him. She keeps secrets from all and is seduced
to the dark side so she can further her plots. She is
sneaky, a snake in the path squirming to ruin the
romance, she is the moon eclipsing the love of our
characters, she is a bitch.
We finally come back to the TR. The beauty of the land
is only overshadowed by the love seen between Perrin and
Faile. They are Romeo and Juliet, Anthony and
Cleopatra, the purist examples of true love. However
word comes down that Davrame Bashere is near Caemlyn so
they must leave. Perrin also feels the pull of Rand from
far off. So they set out together. On their trip
Berelain comes across the two of them. She is as
beautiful as ever. She starts to tie string to Perrins
heart pulling him away from Faile. What a seductress,
schemer, slut.
The Army marches out of the TR with Perrin. We see
Alanna appraising Tam al'Thor. He tries to sidestep her
whims yet gets his heart caught in one of her snares.
He falls passionately in love with her however she
cannot see the love that smolders in his eyes. The army
is then pressed by bandits or an army. Alanna's second
warder dies she is helpless, floating down the stream of
life like a twig caught in the rapids. It is Tam that
saves her, she bonds him, love flourishes.
The end of the book has Roy arriving at the tower Lanfear
waiting for him. He dismounts from his horse his
muscles rippling an appraising smile coming onto
Lanfears lips. She asks whether he is into S&M. He
nods quickly. She kisses him. He wraps his massive
arms around her. She pulls out his heart. He dies
falling to the ground with a smile of ecstacy on his
face.
THE END. (Ahhh what a fulfilling story line. I must
admit though that my submission was biased due to the
Frasier season premiere.)
