Hi Michael:

We're going to have another ExChromebook Installfest at StrayCap
Saturday: can you please post to your local Linux groups about it? See
the text below.

Hope to see you there, -Peter

This Saturday May 9: ExChromebook Installfest in Hayward

StrayCap Multispace is a not-for-profit Makerspace in Hayward that
opened earlier this year (https://www.straycap.org/home), they’re
gathering up expired school system Chromebooks to convert to Linux,
they’ve got hundreds on hand at the moment. (See https://bit.ly/cbsave
for background.)

We held an inaugural “ExChromebook" conversion event there in February
and had a great time, photos here:

So let’s do it again this Saturday May 9; bring any laptop disassembly
tools you have (#1 phillips screwdrivers and pry tools) and USB drives
with distros (e.g. Lubuntu) and we’ll work together to convert and
reconfigure Chromebooks into “ExChromebooks” while asking questions
like:
-How can we best re-purpose these in our communities to improve
digital literacy, digital sovereignty, digital inclusion, digital
equity?
-Depending on those use cases: which distro(s) work best?
-How much can we automate the installation and post-installation process?

You’re welcome to take some home to experiment with or to give to
anyone else you know who could use one. (Fill out this Google Form:
https://forms.gle/zMJjTxmQPj8ZvaJ39) You’re also most welcome to bring
your own Linux, computer-related, or general repair projects to work
on and get help with.

Please RSVP at http://bit.ly/inpersoncoachsignup so we can get a head
count (select "2026-05-09 USA-CA-Hawyard ExChromebook Installfest at
StrayCap Noon" from the pulldown menu.)

Hope you see you Saturday, -Peter
