[sf-lug] Volunteers to actually update the web page? ...

Ronald, Elsie, and anyone else so interested, thanks ...

Well, if y'all are volunteering :-)

Please email me (not the list),
so I can create the account(s) (and have contact info. for you if ever things go
sideways or whatever, and does go in the /etc/passwd file, but not exactly a
whole lot 'o folks logging in that could even look at that)
Name: (at least first and last):
Preferred login name and optionally an alternate or two (in case of
collisions or whatever,
should generally be 3 to 8 characters, first lowercase alpha,
remainder lowercase alpha and/or decimal digits):
email address (and optionally also alternate(s)):
phone number(s) (at least one, optionally additional
alternates, also good to indicate which can accept text messages):
And that's then generally enough info for me to get your account and
access set up,
and get initial password reasonably securely to you (I typically split
over at least two delivery
means, and also provide you the information on how to combine those to
reconstruct the
actual initial password). If you have PGP/gpg public key I can
encrypt to that you can
decrypt from - you could also let me know the relevant on that, and I
could do it that way.

And if I then get your account(s) created on there, then hopefully you'll
actually do at least some of the relevant volunteer stuff (alas, some
have gotten
accounts and not even bothered to ever login).

Thanks.

What updates? Up to y'all (may want to discuss
on list), but e.g. maybe start with the bit Aaron
seems to point out about monthly about the
(excessive?) browser requirements stated for
meet.jit.si, and that Rick has also commented on.
(okay, so lynx and w3m ain't gonna do it, but ...)

And the actual host source for the home page
for the SF-LUG web site is PHP, not (pure) HTML,
so you won't see the literal source via http[s],
but it's mostly HTML text, the PHP bit is mostly if not
entirely quite trivial - was done many moons ago by,
I believe Jim Stockford, and really only serves
to keep (approximately?) current the date of the next
SF-LUG meeting. And I believe his intent was to
replace that with a cron driven updating of a
static HTML web page, but he's yet to get around
to doing that, and one other person likewise
volunteered to do that, but also has made no
actual progress on that (no, they didn't run off
to join the French Foreign Legion ... but I believe did
leave the US, renounce their US citizenship,
and will be or are a combat medic in Ukraine -
so likewise I don't think they're going to get around
to converting that PHP to a cron job anytime soon either).

Guidance? Well, can ask the list. :-) 240^W238 folks there,
ought be some folks that know, etc.
(and no, I am not your personal free private tutor, see also:
http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#noprivate)
In addition to that:
ssh: https://www.mpaoli.net/~michael/unix/ssh/
vi: https://www.mpaoli.net/~michael/unix/vi/
*nix permissions: https://www.mpaoli.net/~michael/unix/permissions
And of course there's tons of information, and including also
definitive references,
and likewise man pages on the host, on relevant commands, e.g.
sudo, su, sudoedit, cat, cp, chmod, mv, rm, etc.
sudo -l
may be a particularly useful and informative place to start,
at least once logged in.
