Hi LUGers,

Well the meeting went down pretty well.

     When I logged into <https://meet.jit.si/sf-lug.org>
Rick Moen was already on hand.
He has to buy a new cell phone and wants a nice folding phone
that is strong enough to endure some abuse. Wants nothing to do
with Android. Who can blame him. He might go to PIne Phone.

John S. was next to arrive but had to leave around Noon for a hot
date at the Gym.

Aaron was having a problem with Grub on a dual-boot Linux install.
Ken S. was trying to help him with that.

Another John was having problems with audio which he may have
fixed by the end of the meeting. Too much microphone sensitivity.

Michael P. stopped in as he continued his maintenance work
on the relevant servers.

Ron from BC came along to toss out an occasional comment.

Rick M. also pointed out the insecure nature of our present
arrangements detailing a story about how he had redundant DNS servers
pointing to his sites. However the other 5 or 6 people in this
arrangement changed their providers or did other things which left h
im with the sole DNS and so no one could easily find the sites he has.
They did not call, email or phone to tell him that they could no
  longer support his DNS scheme.

Al stopped by at the last minute having seen my remark maybe
via Michael P.'s reply to me about hoping that some of the silent
majority of the membership would drop by. By "silent" I mean that
they generally do not attend meetings or contribute to the mailing
list unless they are having a real problem with their computing.

So by and large this was one of the best meetings on jit.si that we
have had.

At one point we got into entertainment on TV after an exchange of
Frank Herbert's Dune related quotes. I want Superman to go back to
Alien from another Planet with higher gravity which was his starting
point as now everything is magic, all the show involving costumed
vigilantes or super heroes in evening hours TV is now contaminated
by Soap Opera plotting which drags stories out for multiple episode
without firm resolutions.

So the next meeting will be on Sunday May 5th and I
will be on <https://meet.jit.si/sf-lug.org> from 11 AM to 1 PM

            ==================================

Now to catch up on the Distrowatch.com late arrivals.

2022-03-30 Distribution Release: GParted Live 1.4.0-1
I have downloaded a copy of the AMD_64 version. One thing is that
it lists a number of newer features and included was "JBD Partition"
I looked hard and the reference is to Joe's Boot Disk which is
a live distro that will boot up to Slackware.

2022-03-31 NEW • Development Release: Ubuntu MATE 22.04 Beta
Actually all of the usual Ubuntu and various other distros
based on the Ubuntu repositories are out with these and may be
downloaded from Distrowatch. Unless you are Ubuntu hotshot like
Ken S. wait for the final release of 22.04 which is the Long Term
Support version.

	2022-04-01 NEW • Distribution Release: deepin 20.5
If you know an Asian language speaker who might be interested in
Linux this is the one. It is reputedly one of the most beautiful
releases of GNU/Linux.

	2022-04-05 NEW • Distribution Release: Q4OS 4.8
Well this is Debian based and they promise 5 Years of
support. It has two version one with KDE's Plasma and the other
with Trinity desktop environment. The Trinity version is the
smaller of the two with a few hundred megabytes difference.
Both around 1 GB.

And I told you it was not much news.
