Quoting Bobbie Sellers <bliss-sf4ever at dslextreme.com> from [1]:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Arrron C. Came to the meeting promoting the Book of Vi and the
Shallows but he was not at home but staying with and helping a person who
was ill so he did not personally participate much.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. No, this was and is Aaron C.
2. Made a bit of an apparently over-subtle Linux "Vi" pun of 'The Book of
V.: A Novel' [2].
Probably should have stuck with presenting my own printed copy of
'Learning the vi Editor, Sixth Edition' [3] instead :-\
3. Full title of Nicholas Carr's 2011 book is 'The Shallows: What the
Internet Is Doing to Our Brains' [4]. Title could be somewhat ironic for
those of us viewing this very posting online, including myself ;-|
4. The person who I was staying with and helping out was a 80yrs+ elderly
person who is COVID-19 negative and is definitely *not* ill at the present
time.
OTOH and vaguely directly related to illness, did manage to hear a snippet
of slow-motion meeting conversation about Shingles and Herpes *
5. Was unable to "personally participate much" due to possible browser
and/or WiFi connection and dropout issues on an 8 GB RAM Acer desktop PC
with Linux Mint 20 Ulyana Xfce installed [5].
The ATT U-Verse combination Ethernet-LAN and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi router was,
is, and *will* be located a full housefloor above where the "non-ill" user
has insisted the Acer desktop PC must be located.
Unfortunately, cannot provide further hardware+software details of either
the Acer desktop PC or the ATT U-Verse combo-router at the present time
:-/
Suggestions to resolve the severe audio and video lag times when
participating in the next Jit.si Meet sessions so far include:
- Installing and using a "sufficiently recent version of, e.g. Chromium,
Chrome" instead of Firefox as per previous mailing-list recommendations
and the main SF-LUG webpage [6].
- Installing, using, and *effectively* placing some sort of an 802.11
b/g/n WiFi "extender" or WiFi repeater near the staircase between the two
housefloors where the ATT U-Verse combo-router and the Acer desktop PC
must be located.
- Using Jit.si Meet on a separate laptop PC with Linux installed
*directly* connected by a medium-length of Ethernet cable to the ATT
U-Verse combo router.
- Installing a second 802.11 b/g/n wireless router directly to the ATT
U-Verse combo-router using a fairly-long length (50ft+ ?) of standard
Cat5e Ethernet patch cable.
Am open to other suggestions :-)
And BTW, in case I didn't sufficiently emphasize it above, cannot provide
further hardware+software details of either the Acer desktop PC or the ATT
U-Verse combo-router at the present time :-/
-Aaron (or 'aaronco36' according to "Akkana now in New Mexico" ;-D )
* As a subtly-humorous, Biblical What-If scenario, Would HERpes have
rather been called HIMpes if the accursed snake of Genesis Chapter 3 had
seduced *Adam* instead of Eve to eat the fruit from the Forbidden Tree?
