A good approach of "doing virtual", then, might be to start off with 
VirtualBox (since it's more flexible and easier to install on host OS's 
than is qemu-kvm), and then eventually transition to the latter when one 
has sufficiently-capable hardware+firmware as well as the more advanced 
expertise and skillset that Michael P and Rick M have, in order to 
effectively manage qemu-kvs via the CLI and using libvirt together with 
"virt-manager and friends" :-)
