A few corrections here.

1. The Slackware installation on the Lenovo has its GUI shell as XFCE;
XFCE is usually considered a Desktop Environment (DE).

2. The installation on the selfsame Lenovo showing that "nice picture of a
transit platform" is the antiX Linux distro. The GUI shells that I've set
up under antiX are fluxbox, icewm, and jwm. Unless I'm very badly
mistaken, all three of these GUI shells are considered Window Managers
(WMs) instead of DEs.

You others reading this can now have at it in discussing the major
diifferences between a WM and a DE --- although I think similar
discussions as this _have_ come up before here ;-)

One addendum re the Slackware installation.
At least the _Slackware_ maintainers have very recently put out a new
linux kernel that includes "mitigations for the Spectre (variant 2) and
Meltdown speculative side channel attacks" of
- CVE-2017-5715,
https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2017-5715
- CVE-2017-5754,
