Hmm? I'm not really clear on what this means, because it doesn't
describe what you attempted to do and what happened then.

Easiest way: Do Ctrl-Alt-F1. (Press the F1 key while holding down the
Ctrl and Alt keys.) Your screen should change from the GNOME graphical
display, typically on virtual terminal 7, to a pure terminal screen on
virtual console 1. You will see a login prompt. Login. Do whatever
commands you aim to do. When you're done, type 'logout'.

(Ctrl-d or 'exit' usually accomplishes the same thing with fewer
keystrokes, in that they cause exit of the current shell and you are
usually only one shell deep, such that exiting that one shell logs you out.)

Press Ctrl-Alt-F7 to go back to your GNOME graphical display. (That's
because it is typically running on the seventh virtual terminal.)

> The 'find' function isn't finding it.

Again, I really have no idea what you mean. I would guess you're talking
about some GNOME thing.

All of us Linux users use Linux and its shells. Some use GNOME, but
by no means all of us.

I'm sympathetic, but will point out that if you can send e-mail to
mailing list, you can certainly use bash and similar shells.

Well, but putting one on a picture-hosting free Web site, on the other
hand, might well be a good idea, depending.
