The Linux Users' Group of Davis (LUGOD) will be holding the following meeting:
Monday
November 21, 2016
7:00pm - 9:00pm
Presentation:
"Snapper"
Presented by:
Will Marshall
Description:
Snapper (http://www.snapper.io/) is a tool for Linux filesystem snapshot
management. Apart from the obvious creation and deletion of snapshots,
it can compare snapshots and revert differences between snapshots. In
simple terms, this allows root and non-root users to view older versions
of files and revert changes.
The demo will be focused on the command-line, though the graphical
tool "snapper-gui" will also be covered. While Snapper prefers
"btrfs" filesystems, it also works on "ext4", which will also be
demonstrated. Use of "cron" to time regular snapshots (a la Apple's
"Time Machine") will be discussed, as will use of Snapper to boot from,
and revert to, a previous snapshot.
This meeting will be held at:
Explorit Nature Center
3141 Fifth Street
Davis, CA 95618
