Hi LUGers,
Well I got out of the studio a bit early
and caught a #38R bus to 25th and got
to the Cafe Enchante by 5:35 P.M.
I must say I did not expect a large turnout
on the last SF-LUG meeting of Summer 2016 and
In that I was not disappointed,
Jim S. brought me a note about having to
go to the Band rehearsal. Sadly though he
left for the rehearsal before I could remember
to hand him the disks for Ron.
I got the Dell e6420 laptop running and
remembered to switch the WIFi on, ordered
the iced decaf soy latte that I indulge in while
keeping seated for a couple of hours.
Then about 6:06 PM I started up VLC and got
to watch nearly 40 minutes of one of my favorite
anime shows, That was fun... Also the show looked
better on the 1600 x 900 display than on my
HP's 1366 x 768.
6:40 PM Aaron showed up & he had been having
a problem getting updates for his Anti-X distribution.
Anti-X is built on top of Debian and he was expecting
to get updates that had not been coming through.
But by 7 PM he was able to access them and spent
a good deal of the remaining time chatting about
the relative choices of Linux distribution for a
blade-styled computer with Window 7 on a 66
GB hard disk.
Meantime and not able to provide a definitive
answer I served as a sounding board with some echo
and never satisfied I started adjusting my icons on
my KDE Plasma 4 desktop.
At about 10 minutes to 8 PM we started packing up
and i caught a #38 bus homeward about 8:05 PM.
Well if Aaron or Jim have any remarks to
correct mis-perceptions on my part I am sure
we will hear from them shortly.
And if we have TOR users, a 2.6 version is
current just showing up on Distrowatch today..
I have decided that my downloading it is contra-
indicated by the security model they espouse
at TOR.
The next SF-LUG meeting at the Cafe Enchante
will be on Sunday, October 2, 2016 & my usual
announcement will be up about September 26,
Bobbie Sellers
