Hi LUGers,

10:40 AM arrived at the Cafe, preceded by Ron
Wellman. This was a smallish meeting but seemed
quite active.

Ron and I had a nice talk for about 15-20 minutes as
I set up the notebook, without real problems.
I have to say that one of the distros I had tried out
last week had shut off my WiFi card.
Thanks to Maestro showing me about the 'rfkil"
command I was able to get it working immediately
on reboot.

Gave Ron, Maestro who showed up next, and Jim
Stockford who showed up about Noon, copies
of the Knoppix 7.6.1 release.

It seems that Ron and Jim are trying to set up a
'buntu server with some problems that may relate to
the media so I will be downloading the 14.10 LTS server
for them.

Michael came in next. Still very happy with his
Slackware installation. We talked a lot about memorable
moments such as the death of Stalin and a few others.

Ron spent a lot of time reading the magazines I
dragged along. Ron left shortly after Jim arrived

I also gave Jim a copy of Scientific Linux
2016.1-7.2-x86_64-02-02 .

I had an unmarked DVD along and tried to boot it up
to discover its contents, It was a copy of Kali 2.0 x86_64
but it would not boot from either the uefi or the plain
DVD drive, so I over-wrote it and then was able to get
it to boot from plain DVD drive. Sadly this is more than
ever a distribution for the highly skilled user apparently
for those happy to configure a WiFi connection from a
terminal. Since I could not get it online I did not try
anything else such as the IceWeasel browser.

I believe Maestro was having some configuration
problems and Jim helped him with that from about 12:30
until about 01:15 PM and then we adjourned.
Jim gave me a ride back to my place.

If anyone else attending that meeting or otherwise
aware of the issues discussed has emendation or
additions please post them ASAP so that misconceptions
may be be quashed before they have a chance to sink
in,

     Bobbie Sellers
