Maestro, for some reason (unexplained), you just jumped out of the
mailing list thread into private mail.

If you do this seeking privacy (or something like that), it's considered
polite at bare minimum to explain that you've done so, and give the
reason why. This should be rare, as people contribute to public threads
in order to do _public_ discussion, not get sidetracked into private,
personal ones.

I believe you have indulged this sort of behaviour several times before.
Please stop doing that.

If you're trying to cite something upthread, shouldn't you provide the
relevant _URL_? I mean, gosh, it's not hard. The whole World-Wide Web
exists to make it easy. The implication of your not bothering to
provide URLs is you don't value the other person's time.

All you stated in mail (twice) was that a firmware image now loaded,
where it hadn't before.

You know, come to think of that, your original problem description, at
http://linuxmafia.com/pipermail/sf-lug/2015q4/011532.html (see, that's
called a URL), was so maddening vague that I not only had to do
detective work just to figure out what your freakin' hardware was, but
also what the exact problem was.

In http://linuxmafia.com/pipermail/sf-lug/2015q4/011532.html, you cited
dmesg lines showing failure of a firmware file to load. Strictly
speaking, the rational response to that is 'OK, so? Are you saying
failure to load this firmware BLOB is somehow relevant to a problem?
If so, what is that problem?'

But that would be a bit hard-assed about querent vagueness, so, to be
helpful, I traced out what you _should_ have said if you were bothering
to think through your request for help: The implication was that X11
was not starting, and your (reasonable) inference was that failure to
load the firmware BLOB was implicated.

So, I inferred that the underlying problem was 'X11 isn't loading, and I
suspect it has something to do with a firmware BLOB not loading.'

Thus, I perhaps naively expected you to say 'Hey, that did it!' or
'Sorry, I still have symptom [x]'.

As far as '[solved] means just that universally accepted worldwide',
all you did was put this 1/3 of the way down a long, meandering message:

thanks very much daniel and rick...

and additional thanks to you rick for looking up that other 'info' ...

  [solved]
  code:
  #apt-get install firmware-linux-free
  #vi /etc/apt/sources.list
add-in debian non-free sources from the debian firmware wiki or other...
  #apt-get update
  #apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree
#apt-get update and #apt-get upgrade if you want
  #reboot

  falafrickingla

  thanks again folks...

OK, what you 'solved' was loading package 'firmware-linux-nonfree'.
But it was only a strong surmise that doing so would solve your _actual_
(if lackadaisically unstated) problem, that of X11 being unable to
start.

Anyhow, not a big thing, and this has not been a good use of your time,
or mine.
