Actually I think you have a typo in the numerical designation of
the distribution you want to update to. I am not a Ubuntu user but
on the systems I use I can avoid formatting home.
But usually I back up home anyway including the hidden files aka
./ directories in home/bliss/.
How much hard disk space do you have available?
On my last upgrade from Mageia 4.1 to 5 RC I made all new partitions
for the new install. I still have Mageia 4.1 accessible by the GRUB2
start-up. But I used a bootable copy of gparted-live-0.22.0-2-amd64
to make my new partitions. gparted is available for most processor
architectures in the x86 lomes
And while if the distribution you want is

ubuntu-14.04.2-desktop that is ok but I will have to know whether your
CPU architecture is 32 or 64 bit.

Maybe someone who uses Ubuntu installing it frequently could chime in
here and fill us in on the plausibility of using a Ubuntu install script
with prepared partitions.
