Well I know little more about grml than before. I booted it up
this evening and found Links to read some of the documentation.
Now what does Knoppix have that grml does not?
A more informative graphic interface and if you go for the DVD
you have your choice out of three desktop environments KDE,
Gnome and LXDE.
But for me the most valuable thing it has is "Knoppix for Dummies"
which I bought way back at the beginning of my interest in Linux
with Knoppix 3.12 on a cd. Learned to do some basic stuff
with practical intent.
There seems to be lots of stuff about grml on the web but
I could not get there if it were not for Mandriva-like derivatives not
expert's versions like grml.
Oh and for the experts we have grml64-full_2014.11.iso
which fits handily enough on a cd. Those who want copies
will let me know, I am sure.
Big snip of successive Knoppix 7.5 messages.

I got the replacement part from HP today and it only
took two tries installing it to get a working optical drive
back inside my laptop.
Big problem was the appearance of the parts which
confused me when I made the mistake of looking at them
side by side. They do have their differences, though and
i got the right one in the slot. Don't know why I had to
reseat the drive in the SATA connector but the second
time worked.
