[sf-lug] how to install linux on laptop with no cd drive?

I had a laptop a long time ago like this and I put the hard drive on another 
machine, installed Linux with VirtualBox hooked directly to that hard drive 
(no VDI; it is an option that is seemingly hard to set up without being root). 
Once installed, you should just be able to put it in the laptop without any 
issue.
