Additionally to that, depending on what controls the BIOS vendor and OEM
include, the user could:

1.  Disable UEFI Secure Boot, or
2.  Switch the firmware to a legacy BIOS mode.

As with reflashing your firmware to run Coreboot[1], these operating
modes would prevent MS-Windows 8 from being willing to run as
MS-Windows would detect its initialising in a 'non-secure' hardware
environment, but not all of us regard that as a drawback.  ;->

[1] An open source project called TianoCore exists to add UEFI
interfaces to Coreboot, primarily to initialize hardware.  I'm not sure
how useful that code is yet, as it relies somewhat on cooperation from 
hardware manufacturers to provide specifications.
