[sf-lug] Using gamepads on linux?

Hi Folks - I've been getting more into FOSS games lately (there's tons of
good stuff out there if you're into video games!) and am now looking to pick
up a gamepad.  While these devices are usually USB-based and work just fine
as HID, I thought I'd check if anyone knows of any "gotcha's" before I
buy... anything I should know or read up on regarding USB-HID?  Or any
experiences with them directly?  Do they usually work pretty well?
