VLC Media Player.
sudo apt-get install vlc

It's the best media player all around, for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X.
DVD playback works great, and it includes all major codecs. It will even
work with a remote control if you have one, and it has all sorts of
features and plugins, yet it's still light-weight.

Also for good media playback in Ubuntu I recommend adding stuff from the
Mediubuntu repository, which includes a bunch of proprietary codecs and
stuff. http://medibuntu.org/.
