I never heard of this directory; I don't think it is a standard place.
My suggestion is to set MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH to point here, or put the .so
in your default plugin path such as ~/.mozilla/plugins . If you Google
for MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH you will probably get a better idea about this.

Are you really unable to create any file which is persistent across
reboot? If so you probably need to solve that first.
