If you would like to share a nice hot lunch with a community organization
that is using Linux computers, please feel free to RSVP with me for a lunch
special this Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 450 Church Street at
Mission. The lunch will be served in the Everett middle school cafeteria
promptly at 3:30 p.m. and will continue only for 30 minutes, after which you
are invited to hang out with the students and staff in the Mission Beacon
Center, which is located in the same building.

I will be at the Mission Beacon Center from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm this
Thursday, but will need to leave promptly at 4:00 pm.

As many of you know from reading this list, the Mission Beacon Center (MBC)
is a community center located at 450 Church Street near 16th Street in San
Francisco which has begun using 10 Linux workstations for use by staff and
students. The staff are using the machines primarily for word processing,
email, and web browsing. Same for the students, although the students also
do like to watch on-line video.

The MBC would like to invite the SF-LUG community to come to a free (as in
beer) community lunch that happens on Thursdays (no alcohol is served, of
course, since this is a school with minors present, in the unlikely event
you didn't get the standard free beer joke).

These Thursday meals will be a great opportunity to come and meet new users
and become part of their community. I highly recommend it, if you are not
working at that time.

San Francisco Supervisor Bevan Dufty will be visiting the MBC this Thursday
from 1:30 p.m. to about 2:30 p.m. in part for the purpose of seeing the
Linux machines and hearing how those machines have helped MBC and how those
machines might help other similar orgs.

If you are interested in attending this community lunch, please email
Christian Einfeldt at einfeldt @ @ gmail dot com. We do need to have you
RSVP in advance so they can plan ahead. Please don't show up without RSVPing
to Christian Einfeldt in advance. This event happens every Thursday at 3:30
pm. Also, from 3:30-5:30 pm there is a food pantry, which all are welcome to
take home fruits, vegetables, grains, and more. Please RSVP by 5:00 pm on
the preceeding Wednesday if you would like to attend.

The MBC staff and students are a warm and friendly crowd, and they are very
grateful for the Linux computers that they have received, so you will be
warmly welcomed and you will have a good time.
