Owen,

you can get the exact specs for your machine (look on the bottom of  
the laptop for the exact type & model) here:

I am not sure if they still make the ram (too old) and hard was  
proportiary.  I have installed xUbuntu on older machines with great  
success.  Let me know the exact specs and we can go form there.    I'd  
be happy to help freshen it up.
