Brother printers have good Linux support - directly from the
manufacturer. (The company has a web site that provides drivers and
software for just about all their models.)
We use the Brother mfc885cw allinone here at work, but I haven't yet
been able to get it to work with my linux setup. That said, my distro,
Arch Linux, doesn't have a package for the software, so I'm trying to
build/package it myself - and probably making some mistake somewhere.
Maybe try seeing if Ubuntu has a package for that model.
