Interesting. I am rather impressed at this claim. I'll try turning off the
data on my g1 and monitoring data usage over the terminal later today and
report back.
However, I feel it worth adding the myfaves behaviour native on all US g1s,
which sees the phone send sms to a shortcode, 453, whether or not you use
myfaves.
I am unsure if tmobile would charge you roaming fees for this. I doubt it,
but I would certainly check.
Those with root can install the uk software to remove myfaves and the issue
without other consequences.
I would definitely fight such roaming charges, however. They sold the guy a
device with an obvious flaw which resulted in the charges. To me, that's
liability.
Oh, and unless tmobile became more generous, it's $15/mb, but charged at
$0.015/kb for roaming...
