[sf-lug] Other locations

Well, I figured I'll throw in my 2 cents, Although I am not able to regularly attend meetings a move from Java Cat to St. Anthonys would pretty much make irregular attendance; non attendance. My general opinion is that St. Anthonys is not in the greatest neighborhood (arguably the worst neighborhood in the city). I walk almost everywhere I go and I don't feel completely comfortable walking around parts of the tenderloin at night. 

As for other suggestions; I would love a place that serves beer :) I would be much more inclined to attend on a regular basis knowing I could enjoy a beer or two during our meetings...

that's more like a nickle, but nice. 

my idea for a third timeslot for asheesh's 
talk is that a different location seems to 
be an important consideration for his talk. 
if we go to a different location at a regular 
time, it's possible someone will show up at 
javacat and be disappointed. 
given that this is a lab/tutorial event, 
it seems excusable. it has the benefit that 
we are scouting out alternative places to 
javacat. if we find one that works, we can 
change the meeting arrangements to use that 
place for one of our two monthly meetings. 
the grind is reasonably close to haight 
street and castro-divisadero and fillmore 
street buses, though not very close to BART. 
it's open and roomy, food isn't too bad as 
i recall. closes at 8 PM weekdays. 

your caution regarding keymasters is 
good. one of our prospective locations is 
saint anthony's, which christian is looking 
into. seems important that if we choose 
that location for anything we have access, 
including coming a bit early (for setup) 
and staying a bit late (for tear-down but 
also for extra talking). 
saint anthony's bears a bit more 
discussion: there's a community there that 
might benefit from the attentions of people 
such as us: linux and open source software, 
training, support. aside from finding a 
good place for asheesh's training or an 
alternative place to javacat, there's the 
idea of somehow involving those of us who 
want to be involved in helping out that 
community. might dovetail with the KIPP 
school effort in some way, too.
