Welcome!

FWIW, the Solaris installer has been improved a good bit in v. 10.x,
though the support for x86 hardware remains more than a little thin.
Oddly enough, Linux-inspired derivatives are easier, such as BeleniX
(http://www.genunix.org/distributions/belenix_site/) and especially
Nexenta (http://www.nexenta.org/os/Home).
