 You might try Bruce Eckel's "Thinking In *" series (
http://www.mindview.net/Books) for java, c/c++, and python.  For perl, you
could try "Picking Up Perl" (http://www.ebb.org/PickingUpPerl/).  For php,
you might try W3Schools (http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp).
