Hi Asheesh,

I'm pretty sure the bootlog daemon came from the 'sysvinit' package.
You can check it out here:
http://packages.debian.org/etch/i386/sysvinit/filelist

The specific name of the distro -
Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 r0 "Etch" - Official i386 NETINST Binary-1 20070407-11:29

All the files mentioned are owned by root.

"dpkg -l | grep bootlog" (or bootlogd) returns nothing as user or root.

"dpkg -S /etc/init.d/bootlogd" returns "initscripts: /etc/init.d/bootlogd"

"dpkg -S /etc/default/bootlogd" returns "initscripts: /etc/default/bootlogd"
