    at one point i did statistics (a self-defense move in
the wake of the first flame out, which, privately, i was
delighted to see):
    at the time, email averaged about 3 messages per
day, typical peaks were around 14, occasional
maximums exceeded 20, something like 20% of days
saw no email.
