My effort to find a reliable and cheap 802.11n wifi usb adapter to
recommend for use in several schools is not going well. The two samples
I bought from newegg.com use ralink chipsets but there are driver
issues I haven't fully worked through yet. From my reading so far
there are ways to load the proprietary firmware but it may require
recompiling with the staging drivers.
Rosewill RNX-EasyN1 $24.63 after shipping and tax identifies as
148f:3070 Ralink Technology, Corp.

EW-7711UMn $20.30 after shippnig and tax identifies as 7392:7711 with
no text identifier. Neither one works out of the box as I was hoping.

If anyone has positive experiences with other adapters please let me
know. A friend recommended I try a TEW-644UB from Trendnet and I see
one report of installing linux-backports-modules-wireless-* that makes
it work.
