One of the hallmarks on the Americans is we DO NOT listen to warnings, 
and when it comes to pass what we were warned about happens,  we are 
SHOCKED! SHOCKED! "Why didn't anyone warn us?"

I grew up next door to Holocaust survivors, Mr & Mrs. Finegold. They met 
in a Red Cross camp after liberation. Mrs. Finegold was one of the 
people who had escaped from Sobibor and did not talk about what 
happened. Mr. Fiegold was in Dachau and "Yadvegor" ( I have never been 
able to find a reference to that camp, I guess I mis-heard the name ).  
Mr. Finegold was a lawyer in Berlin in the 1920's and 30's and had a 
front row seat to the collapse of the Weimar Republic and the rise of 
the Nazis. In the summer Mr. Finegold would sit in his back yard playing 
chess and passing out candy to the neighborhood children. To get the 
candy the children would have to sit and listen to Mr. Finegold telling 
stories about what had happened.

For the last 10 years or so, every time Trump and/or the MAGA people 
start talking I've been thinking, "I've heard this before." History does 
not repeat but it sorta rhymes. It looks like the Trump people are 
following the authoritarian playbook. I'm re-reading history of the rise 
of the Nazis to try and guess where and how far this is going. My wife 
and I are Jewish so we are a bit skittish. Any time authoritarian start 
making lists of people they don't like, the Jews always get added to the 
list.
