Aha.  Probably the KDE Plasma thing "Muon Discover" that I mentioned
upthread.

Don't know offhand.

Personally, I find the longtime apt/dpkg tools so utterly reliable that,
by preference, I never use any of the many graphical front-end tools.
Now, you would hope that the authors of such tools would merely convey
to the underlying apt suite the desired operations, such as search, but
perhaps either the KDE folk or the implementers of Kubuntu have found a
way to screw that up.

I find "apt-cache search" to be a fine old-school way to search the
package cache for information.
