Also Kaiser Permanente installations. Their Redwood City venue was
reasonably orderly, yesterday -- in contrast to the aforementioned event
at the San Mateo County Fairgrounds ("Event Center"), that by all
accounts had severe opening-day problems.

People lining up for COVID booster shots spurred a traffic snarl
around the San Mateo County Event Center Tuesday, prompting police to
issue an advisory for others to avoid the area or use alternative
routes.
The advisory came out about 3 p.m. on the day that booster shots for
Johnson & Johnson and Moderna vaccines became available. Previously,
only Pfizer booster shots were available.

Booster shots in demand: Long line of cars at San Mateo Event Center clinic
On social media, NBC Bay Area reporter Janelle Wang shared video from
the station’s news helicopter showing a long line of cars waiting for
COVID-19 booster shots at the San Mateo County Event Center today.
Last Thursday, the CDC expanded eligibility for booster shots to
millions of more Americans. Booster doses for all three vaccines
available in the U.S., including those by Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson &
Johnson, are offered at the Event Center, located at 1346 Saratoga Drive
in San Mateo. The Event Center is open on Tuesdays from noon to 7 p.m.
and Wednesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To ease crowding at the booster clinic, San Mateo County Health
recommends that community members make an appointment in advance by
going here (https://myturn.ca.gov/). For additional clinics and
schedules in San Mateo County, go here

In other news, FDA and CDC seem on-track to roll out Pfizer vax for age
5-11, starting early November (if FDA and CDC approval occur as expected).

FDA advisory panel recommends Pfizer vaccine for kids ages 5 to 11
A panel of independent advisers to the Food and Drug Administration is
recommending that the agency issue an emergency use authorization for
the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in children ages 5 to 11 years old. The vote
was 17 in favor and one abstention.

The agency typically goes along with the advice of its expert panels,
though it isn't bound to do so. It will issue a decision within the next
several days. If the FDA authorizes the vaccine for these younger
children, as seems likely, another panel of experts advising the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention would make its own recommendations
and offer guidelines next week on its use among this age group.

With FDA authorization expected as soon as Friday, states already
placing orders for pediatric vaccine
The Food and Drug Administration is aiming to grant emergency use
authorization to the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine for children
ages 5 to 11 on Friday, according to federal officials familiar with the
plans.
While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has the final say
in the vaccine’s authorization for that age group, states already are
gearing up to acquire the necessary doses.
