The only thing notable about the story was a single customer setting a
valid local IP address or DNS setting triggering a CDN bug that took
almost the entire CDN down for an hour. There must have been one
whopper of a bug in Fastly's software infrastructure, that they were
_that_ fragile in reaction to one customer enacting a valid local
network setting.
A CDN's mission is to help customers overcome _hostile_ (and also heavy
and performance-sensitive) Internet traffic. This one couldn't even
survive contact with a friendly customer just going about his/her local
affairs. That is eyebrow-raising in what it implies about Fastly --
albeit not, of course, about the Internet.
