Delightful.
For now, the latest release code for youtube-dl (but not the tip code or
version/branch history) remains available at https://youtube-dl.org/ --
in source tarball form, single-Python-script form (for use), and
MS-Windows .exe file (for use if you have a Windows box but no Python
interpreter, I guess).
The pessimistic planning move is, as always, to mirror what may soon get
vanished. Latest release version is v2020.09.20 .
Of course, _if_ new releases of youtube-dl become difficult to find, and
no new maintainer emerges who's prepared to work around copyright baron
hostility, then legacy youtube-dl code will quickly get broken by the
next Javascript obfuscation twiddle.

This made me laugh; using the tool to get the tool's source:
youtube-dl -o - https://youtu.be/hyqLv2_zBdA | ffmpeg -i - \
-vf scale=120:-1,eq=contrast=10 -sws_flags neighbor -pix_fmt \
monob -f rawvideo yt_dl.tar.gz
