While I’m at it, lots of people blame Sonny Bono (correctly) citing he was in the pocket of various peoples in Hollywood.

However, that was not his primary influence.

He was a Scientologist. He represented the district that had Scientology’s HQ (the 44th, which was then representing Riverside county, which includes Hemet/San Jacinto, where Gold Base is located).
