The viruses are really named differently than the disease, and of
course,
there are several level of namenclature, all of which ends up in the
literature eventually.

The virus itself is designated the name of severe acute respiratory
syndrome coronavirus 2

The rule was to name it where it first got attention, not where it even
started, hence the Spanish Flu.  That being said, in other areas of the
sciences, things are rename.  There is no longer a (K-T) boundry and the
Brontosaur has come and gone and come again :)
