[conspire] English language has ridiculously inconsistent spelling patterns (British/Canadian/American)

It's more than just the spelling which was broken from the start.  After 1066 French speakers and Germanic Speakers had to deal with each other and didn't have the Star Trek translator, much less an Berlitz dictionary.  Most of those people didn't read or write.  It was enough of a problem to figure out words and grammer.  Actually both French and German have well defined rules of grammer, but the two sets are not consistent.
The Brits, Aussies, Kiwi's all have different accents as well.  I once spent 3 weeks in Scotland where I had a bit of a problem on account of the language.

The day I saw this in a tweet, I laughed so hard I had an asthma attack. I tried to tell it to Rick in my non-functional state, but it really works better in print.
