Mike, thanks again,
definitely, I will try your suggestion, the only thing is I don't know what is/does "obs=1048576 count=1"
I will be going today to Cabal, if you go too, maybe you can clarify it for me.
Rick, thanks for answering my call, for now I won't attempt to clarify the issues you brought up, I will limited myself to say:
1. The laptop used is an ASUS - Windows 8.12. On power up, it will boot LinuxMint from DVD.
3. Write a LinuxMint image on a virgin memory stick.4. Reboot from memory stick and everything works fine.
As said before, after two or three boots:
a) the BIOS get reset -don't allowing to boot from USB ports, (it takes few tries to access the BIOS)
b) Linux itself start acting, moving cursor randomly, while typing even though the touchpad was set to *Inactive*, among other erratic problems.
I hope a) and b) define the term by me used -"corrupted".

That CABAL time approaches.

I'm planning to bring:
(pan) seared/roasted red bell peppers,
these are vegan and gluten free,
and also probably not too hot/spicy for those
that are more sensitive to such.
Just red bell peppers and some cooking oil.

However, since air quality has been an issue lately,
one shouldn't inhale these, but they should be fine
for eating.  :-)

Yesterday, I expanded the footnote to give a brief version of that
history, and explain why/how the supposed AIP persists as a 'qualified'
political party in California (and nowhere else).  Direct link:

Just wipe the partition table and MBR, and for good measure, a bit more.
E.g. boot from install or recovery media,
then, presuming your internal drive is /dev/sda,
typically something like this will more than do it:
# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda obs=1048576 count=1
That will wipe partition table and MBR and a bit more, ... but not all the
data on the drive (that would take longer).
In any case, after that, most any installer, etc., will essentially see
"nothing" on the drive - at least see it as unused/"empty"/available,
then one can do a clean install or whatever from that point, and it won't
ask you about any existing partitions on there, etc., as there will be none
for it to see.

Sometimes you might need to check BIOS/CMOS setting first though,
in case, e.g. it "hides" some "protected" area of the disk from
"normal" viewing and/or has it set to read-only/write-protected.

Why, so it does!

I have an incredibly delicious stew that I cooked last night, and a
couple of newly baked sourdough loaves for garlic bread.  Yum!

I might conjure up other things as the mood strikes me.  (Pumpkin pie,
maybe?)

The air quality is indeed moderately atrocious all over the Bay Area.
Thank your lucky stars we're not in Chico.

On the _10th_, not the 9th.

Hi, Jose.  I delayed responding to your query because your question
raises other questions.  Specifically, I kept getting the uncomfortable
feeling that you may be seeking to solve the wrong problem.

Your second paragraph seems to suggest you suspect that your
installation of MS-Windows is corrupting the Linux Mint installation you
have on a flash drive.  Leaving aside that it's unclear what you mean by
'getting corrupted', I just don't see what you suggest as plausible.
Frankly, I don't even see how it would be _possible_.

That is, when you boot to Linux Mint, by booting from the flash drive,
you are not running any code of any kind on your system hard drive where
MS-Windows resides.  So, given that no part of MS-Windows gets executed,
there is no way that it can 'corrupt' the flash drive at that time, or
do anything at all, for that matter.

Of course, if you _also_ leave the flash drive attached when rebooting
to MS-Windows, _then_ it would in theory be possible for MS-Windows, or
some program run by MS-Windows (including MS-Windows malware) to write
(something) to the flash drive.  The obvious way to prevent that would
be to disconnect the flash drive before rebooting to MS-Windows.

Your account was so vague that I need to stop there, e.g., we're left
with no clear understanding of what the course of events was.

In a larger sense, you ought to concentrate on figuring out what --
ccording to you -- is writing to your flash drive without your
permission.  That is very abnormal behaviour, and, e.g., is not
something MS-Windows does on its own initiative.  So, something bad is
going on (according to your account), and you haven't figured out what
that thing is.  _That_ is what you should work on, figuring that out,
not seeking to throw encryption at the problem.
