Suddenly, my ongoing inability to get announcements from
either Santa
Cruz Mountain Vineyard or Beltramo's is explained:
It's outsourced
mailing vendor Constant Contact failing to fix its bugs.
Mailing list folks: Another example of an Internet
outsourcing company
trying to foist off its failures onto its customers.
Maybe they should
try using open source?

Hi Rick,
Thank you for the very nice comments, and I'm thrilled that
you have been
such a satisfied member for so long.
I logged into Constant Contact tonight and spent a bunch of
time trying to
figure out why you were a listed Wine Club contact but
without a listed
email address. When I tried to add this email address it
wouldn't take it,
saying it was in the system already. So I deleted your file
and made a new
one for you, but when I put in this email address it
wouldn't let me,
saying that you had unsubscribed in the past. So it looks
like you
mistakenly unsubscribed at some point. That message only
comes when the
email addressee unsubscribes, not if I do it.
Is there another email address I can use for you? I'm afraid
the system
won't let me re-subscribe you in any way I can figure out.
Regards, - Jeff

I never unsubscribed, but my Internet server was offline for
several
months at the end of 2014 and beginning of 2015, so Constant
Contact
probably unsubscribed me at that time, when mail to me was
undeliverable.
If you don't mind spending a coupld of more minutes on
this: Make
Constant Contact's software bug _their_ problem, by telling
them to add
my address back. It's what they're paid for.
<grin> You can live
text-chat with them, or call or e-mail them.
http://www.constantcontact.com/support
Honestly, they should fix their darned
software. I would really
appreciate your putting the problem back in their court,
because I just
realised I've not been getting mailings at least one other
company that
uses Constant Contact, too -- but suspect they won't talk to
me because
I'm not their customer.

Rick,
Another installment in the joys of outsourcing. One of the
problems with
outsourcing is that the company that you outsource to has
less incentive
to look after your interests than you do. (They are only in
it for the money.)

No fooling. It's been amazing to see how often
outsourced Internet
hosting companies completely screw up basic, easy things
(likw DNS).
I guess their working hypothesis is that, if you're their
customer, you
don't know enough to detect the incompetence, and aren't
smart enough to
go elsewhere.
FWIW, I just heard back from Jeff Emery, proprietor of Santa
Cruz
Mountain Winery. He's going to pursue that bug report
with Constant
Contact, _and_ he's soon going to move sideways to Mailchimp
(which, if
you need to outsource mailing list operations, is reportedly
quite
good).
