Good points on that site.  I try to avoid URL
shorteners, mostly because some future acquirer of
a URL-shortening company could retroactively make me
into a web spammer.

It is good to see sites take the
time to clean up and shorten their own
URLs, though, even if it is just for SEO.
http://example.com/news/2011/free-live-nude-warez/
is better than
http://example.com/long/cms/path/news.php?id=000001&parameter=xyzzy&other_parameter=default&are_we_web_developers_yet=true&can_we_do_this_all_day=hell+yeah%21
